Injection Method for CLB Project Concrete Structure Crack
1. General Description for Crack:
Some CLB project concrete panels have cracked due to the support stools in the stacks of panels not being aligned by ZPMC. Larger cracks have occurred where upper stools are outside the lower stools and the cantilever end of the loaded panel bends down and the top surface goes into tension where there are only N20 – 150 bars.
The crack widths have reduced when stack load is released and we think these cracks from bending will close up further when placed on the topside modules because the cracks are about 3m in from the end or middle span, and this area will sag under its own weight and close up the top of the slab.
After investigation by SKM & ZPMC team, we found the cracks were only 5 – 10mm deep only. This implies the crack is shallow and the tension in the concrete only caused cracking in the outer surface of the slab. Thus the cracks are only surface and not affecting the effective section or strength.
In accordance with AS3735 and British Standards it is acceptable to have cracks up to 0.1mm in a marine environment, therefore it is acceptable to have cracks less than 0.1mm with no treatment. Cracks wider than 0.1mm require an injection system to penetrate the crack and to reduce the risk to corrosion of reinforcement.
